A Rally Special Stage is coming to Penistone!
Sheffield and Hallamshire Motor Club are to organise a closed road stage rally using the minor roads around Penistone in October 2023.
This is the first time an event of this kind has been planned for Penistone and it has the potential to be a huge event for the area - bigger than the Tour de Yorkshire! As your local Lib Dem councillor team we know residents will have lots of questions, some great ideas on how it could benefit the town and surrounding villages and potentially some reservations.

- The event will be self funding via the entry fee and sponsorship. There will be no costs to BMBC.
- Careful consideration and consultation will take place to provide suitable spectator areas with the necessary facilities.
- The event will be carbon neutral and we will work with BMBC or a specialist provider to achieve this.
The event will be based at Tankersley, giving good access for the competing crews and minimising disruption to local residents and businesses. The format of the event route minimises the road mileage giving the event the lowest road mileage to stage mileage ratio of any event run to date.

All residents affected by the closed roads will be consulted prior to the event and for the duration of the road closure will have a local point of contact in the event of an emergency. The Motor club has engaged with Barnsley safety advisory group (BMBC, South Yorkshire Police, South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Yorkshire Ambulance Service) regarding the running of the event and we will also engage with Yorkshire Water, British Gas, Yorkshire Electricity and BT. In the event of any incidents involving any of the utilities swift action to rectify the situation can take place.
